MeterMiser

Privacy Policy

Effective May 20, 2026

1. Summary

MeterMiser (operated by sokkos, LLC) is an informational service that helps you track residential electric and natural gas supplier rates. To do that we collect your email, account information, and the utility data you enter. We don't sell your data. We don't show third-party ads. The full details are below.

2. What we collect

Account data.Email address and password (we never see your plain-text password — it's hashed by our authentication provider).

Onboarding data. ZIP code, utility-type interest (Electric, Natural Gas, or Both), and whether you opted in to seasonal email reminders.

Utility account data. Information you choose to enter about your existing supply contracts: utility company, current supplier, current rate, contract start / end dates, annual usage, property nickname or address, and any free-text notes. This is the data the savings calculator acts on for paid plans.

Billing data. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment details are collected directly by Stripe (our payment processor) on their hosted checkout and billing portal. We never see your full card number or CVC. We do store a Stripe customer ID and subscription ID so we can link your billing record to your account.

Technical data.Standard server logs from our hosting provider (Vercel) — IP address, browser, the page you requested, and timestamp. These are used for debugging and abuse detection and rotate out after the hosting provider's default retention period.

We do not collect: precise geolocation, biometric data, health data, government IDs, or third-party tracking cookies.

3. How we use it

  • Run the service: show you your accounts, run the savings calculator against current rate data, send alerts before contract expirations (paid plans).
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions (Stripe handles this on our behalf).
  • Send seasonal rate-shopping reminders to customers who opted in during onboarding.
  • Diagnose bugs and prevent abuse using server logs.
  • Improve the service in aggregate — e.g. understanding which utilities are most popular among customers so we prioritize accurate rate scraping for them. We don't identify individual customers in those summaries.

We do notsell or rent your data. We don't share your contact info with energy suppliers (that's the kickback-funded model we're built to avoid).

4. Third parties (sub-processors)

We rely on a small number of vendors to actually deliver the service. They each receive a slice of your data and are contractually bound to use it only for our purposes.

  • Supabase — hosts our database and authentication. Stores your account, profile, and utility data.
  • Stripe — payment processing. Receives your name, email, billing address (if you choose to provide it), and payment method. We never see your card number.
  • Vercel — application hosting. Receives your IP and the requests your browser makes to our site.
  • GitHub Actions— runs the daily rate scraper. Doesn't receive any customer data; it only reads from the public PUCO Apples-to-Apples site and writes back to our database.

Each of these vendors has its own privacy policy. If you want links, email us at the address in §11.

5. Cookies

We use a single category of cookie: an authentication session cookie set by our auth provider so you stay logged in across page loads. We don't use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party tracking pixels. There is nothing to opt in or out of in your browser.

6. Data retention

Account and utility data — kept as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile row and all utility accounts you entered. We may retain some records longer where required for legal or tax reasons (e.g. Stripe payment receipts).

Server logs— typically rotate out within 30 days at Vercel's defaults.

7. Security

All traffic to the site is encrypted in transit via HTTPS. Passwords are hashed (not encrypted — we genuinely cannot recover your password if you forget it). Database access is gated by row-level security so each user can only read or modify their own rows. Payment details never touch our servers — Stripe holds those.

No system is perfectly secure. If we discover a breach involving your data, we'll notify you promptly at the email on your account.

8. Your rights

You can do the following at any time:

  • Accessthe data we hold about you — most of it is already visible from your dashboard. For anything that isn't, email us and we'll send a copy.
  • Correct your account email, ZIP, utility preferences, and utility data directly from settings or the dashboard.
  • Opt out of seasonal reminders by toggling marketing opt-in off in settings, or by clicking the unsubscribe link in any reminder email.
  • Deleteyour account. Email us at the address in §11; we'll remove your profile row, all utility accounts you entered, and any cancelled Stripe customer record. Active subscriptions need to be cancelled first (see Terms §4).
  • Portyour data — we'll send your profile and utility accounts as a JSON export on request.

If you live in a state with a specific consumer privacy law (California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, etc.) you have additional statutory rights. Email us with your state and the specific right you want to exercise and we'll honor it.

9. Children

The service is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we'll delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

When we make material changes, we'll update the Effective Date above and notify customers by email at the address on file. Continued use of the service after the new policy takes effect constitutes acceptance.
